Berlin

Berlin is one of my favourite cities to visit and photograph. It’s a city layered with history, culture and so many contrasts. Modern Berlin, once divided by a (the) wall, is a vibrant capital, full of life and where past and present meet on every corner. Its architecture tells combined stories of imperial grandeur, wartime devastation and modern reinvention, making it perfect for photography.

These photographs are from a trip I made back in July 2018, when I explored some of Berlin’s most striking cultural landmarks. The Jewish Museum, designed by Daniel Libeskind, is impressively powerful and conveys an architectural narrative of Jewish life and history in Germany. The nearby Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, with its grid of concrete stelae, stands as a stark and moving reminder of the Holocaust. I left with a sensation of having only peeked at the surface of what Berlin can give you. Definitely a place to go back to.
